Upcoming events…

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Well, the coffee table should be getting it’s last coat of lacquer either tonight or tomorrow night.  After that, I’m going to start the fairly extensive “demolition” of the basement by taking out the drop-tile ceiling.  I’ll be living with open rafter down there for a few months, but once I start closing it up again with a real ceiling, things will be much better.

I’ve already got some of the conduit for the network cabling, I’ve been trying to think of any other cabling I want to do so I can run conduit (if necessary) while it’s open.

2 more coats…

… and the end table is done.  One more inverted (well, a partial, relly, to get the angles I can’t get now), then a thick coat right-side-up to make sure the top and shelf are smooth.  Woot!

Table’s end

The coffee table is getting assembled tonight, and with luck I’ll be able to put on the final coats of lacquer tomorrow.  That leaves just the kitchen table and chairs, and although they will take quite a while themselves, I can afford to go a bit more slowly there.

Finally!

pTurned in my apartment keys today – I am finally completely moved out of Carrboro. No I didn’t have abything left there, but the lease was still active until yesterday. The lease is now over. Time to celebrate? Maybe./p

Finish one, start another

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Well, go ahead and start the second even if you’re not quite completely finished with the first.  That’s what I did, anyway…  :)  The coffee table has had the last coat of stain put on the tabletop and bottom shelf, I start lacquering Tuesday.  I came home from the store today with some conduit and awl bits for the drill, and when I started taking apart the basement ceiling, discovered that I will be drilling from the main floor downward due to the placement of support joists.  Which means it’s going to be a lot of fun placing the conduit as well…  oh boyo but this is going to be entertaining.  I tell you – it’s a good thing I planned on painting the damn living room anyway, because with the amount of sheetrock I’m going to have to remove, I’d have had to paint it after replacing the sheetrock anyway!  BUT…  when I’m finished, the living room will be on it’s way to done, and the basement will be a bachelor pad like nothing you’ve ever seen – and no, it won’t be obviously a bachelor pad, it will be perfectly acceptable to be shown to female guests, and even to have parties in.  :)  Having said that, if any ladies of my acquantaince would like to offer advice for lighting (small chandelier vs strip lighting vs can lighting etc) or color, or much of anything else, I would definitely appreciate it.  I have absolutely no sense of color coordination at all.

More on the table

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

The second coat of stain has been applied to the end pieces and top crossbars – the top and bottom shelves were still a bit tacky for me to feel comfortable with the second coat.  Which is to be expected, since they took the longest to do the priming and first coat on, as they are the largest pieces.  Tomorrow’s shot for working on this, hopefully I’ll get something done on Tuesday – maybe even a coat or two of lacquer.  When I finally get this coffee table done and can clean up the living room, I will be quite happy.  After that, the kitchen table and chair await.

Coffee table

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Finally getting started on the coffee table this morning – got it watered, sanded, and the stain primer put on.  First coat of stain will go on just after lunch.  I’m hoping to ahve the second coat of stain on this afternoon – we’ll see how my plans work out.

Fully assembled at last!
